What was your biggest highlight?
“Visiting the dual penthouses on Great Portland Street with the Management team – the properties are stunning. I was lucky enough to spend some time with everyone in the team and I loved the variation of each department. Every aspect of my internship was so insightful and kept me on my toes – no day was the same!”
What area of the business did you find most interesting?
“I really enjoyed tweaking articles for the marketing team. It was very rewarding having an input in the newsletter, which went on to be sent out externally to a global database.
On the other side of the business, I assisted the buying team with finding properties to present to clients. There was a wide mix of requests – one was an investment in Belgravia from a client in the UAE and another from a buyer looking for a family home in Mayfair with specific requirements from an indoor swimming pool to underground private parking. I had to learn to anticipate clients’ needs whilst sticking to a budget. I didn’t realise how much time and detail the buying team put into finding properties and ticking all the boxes.”
What did you learn from working for QEstates?
“As naive as it sounds, I knew nothing about property before coming here. They gave me such a well-rounded introduction to all areas. I learned the most from the Home Management team. Lots of work to goes into meeting the needs of clients which individually is a sensitive job as the high net worth individuals have very bespoke needs, and not one is the same!
“I also didn’t realise the difference between a leasehold and a freehold – you certainly learn something new every day and in fact, this is knowledge that will come in useful for me personally in the future.”
How would you describe the office culture?
“Everyone in the office was super friendly. I’ve never worked in an office environment where everyone is so friendly and personable. I felt so comfortable and they all really encouraged me to ask lots of questions and be chatty. It was a really positive ‘work hard play hard’ atmosphere where everyone is close knit and works together as a team to achieve results. I love how Quintessentially Estates is part of the wider Quintessentially group so there is a nice marriage between the two, combining a corporate yet relaxed atmosphere. I was lucky enough to be part of the team and learn a lot with these people.”
What particular skill will you take with you to your future roles?
“I had a massive insight into the analytical side of property negotiation and the background work that goes on before you rent, buy or manage. The most valuable skill I have taken away with me is the importance of asking questions, as this is the best way to learn.”
